Day 3 of our crazy journey through Philadelphia! We got to sleep in today- well, a few of us anyways. Everyone woke up before time to stop at Walmart before officially starting the day, except Delilah, Sofia and Natasha. Beauty sleep first, right? Later, at 10:30 AM, we all went to the Readings Museum and toured it for about an hour and a half. We saw a ton of amazing stuff like pottery, creepy wooden masks, fossils, ancient swords and a real, live mummy and its coffin! We even got to virtually build and “auction” off Egyptian pots and then tour the great pyramids of Egyptian kings!
After buying a few souvenirs, we were off to find lunch. We ate like royalty at a huge Chinese Buffet! With our stomachs full, we sat down for another long ride to Goggle Works, an awesome art studio and school with tons of rooms where you can meet the artists, look at their work and interact. We roamed around for a few hours, meeting people, goofing off, getting amazed by the creative artwork until it was sadly time to go. We even met an artist who had published many of his Mangas in japan and took our emails because he was organizing a comicon in Philly at Goggle Works! Crazy, right? Once we left, we had a bit of time to spare before the next event, so Ms. Hannay dropped us off at Rockvalle Outlet, a plaza in the town, so we could roam around and shop for about an hour. Yay! Once we were satisfied, we met back at the bus and headed off to the “main event of the day”- the Moses musical at Sight and Sound Theatre!
Some say Moses was by far the “coolest thing they've seen yet”! With huge screens on all sides of the auditorium, the scenes seemed to move with the actors when they walked or ran. It made our heads spin, but it was amazing. The special effects were out of this world- machines blew smoke and cold air into the auditorium at intense moments in the musical. There were thousands of lights hidden in the ceiling that looked like stars when it was “night”. There were also blazing red lights that looked like locusts swarms, and they would lower towards the crowd and spin around! So lifelike! Sometimes flakes of snow and foam would even fall from the ceiling onto the audience! And best of all- there were ACTUAL LIVE ANIMALS! Dogs, sheep, goats, horses, llamas and camels walked through the isles!! They were so close we could practically touch them! There were so many epic, mind blowing events, like the burning bush, or Moses’s staff actually turned into a snake! We couldn’t figure out how that was possible, but they totally pulled it off! The Angel Of Death even floated down from the roof. The temperature of the room dropped a few degrees and there was even gust of wind as she threw around her spells of death that drifted outside of the glowing blood on the Passover doors. It gave us chills- literally and figuratively. And the highlight of the night for some like Faneva and Sofia (who couldn’t stop laughing) was in the climax of the play, when everyone was deadly silent. Pharos son had died and he screamed out Moses’s name, and a kid in the front in the audience seemed to panic in the heat of the moment and cried out “Moses!” In all, it was an amazing, creative interpretation of Moses’s story.
After the musical was over, we went to eat at no other than Red Robins! And yes, to Ms. Hannay’s embarrassment, we all chanted the “Red Robins, yummm!” when we walked in! It definitely got some chuckles from the staff and bystanders. We ate great burgers until we felt our clothes stretching and then it was time to go. But that wasn't the end of the fun- on the way out, Xiara accidentally took the menu with her! Needless to say she had to go back inside for an awkward moment to return it. Well!
And that was how we ended day 3 of an amazing trip. Tune in for tomorrow!
