Ah, the last day of the trip! It was bittersweet. We have spent a great week and have really had some fun experiences together. Many of us want to meet up for a reunion and have a musical-watching night sometime. The songs from the shows we’d watched are constantly being sung at random instances.
For our final day, we enjoyed a slow morning, eating breakfast at the hotel and not leaving until around ten. We grabbed lunch-to-go from Subway and headed to Central Park to eat. It was absolutely beautiful. It was a nice change to the muggy gray streets. There were cherry blossoms everywhere, and great weather; Natasha was excited to see where they filmed part of Enchanted. We also saw horse-and-buggies driving past, all fancy and decorated. There were lots of bikers and runners. It was amazing to see such a big and beautiful park surrounded by city buildings. It was like a little oasis of life and fresh air.
We walked to the Met, which was huge. It was impossible to see everything. Most people didn't even make it around a whole floor. We saw Egyptian mummies, Greek and Roman statues, medieval armor, and lots and lots of incredible paintings. It was a little bit overwhelming trying to see has much as we could. Suzanna was very interested in the photography exhibits (one about concealment, and one of pictures of Paris) and in the Impressionists. Natasha liked Degas’ paintings of ballet dancers. Then some of us bought jewelry and souvenirs at the gift shop.
We left around five and went to the Stardust Diner, where the servers sing. The servers were literally on the tables dancing and singing. The line was enormous, and a lot of us went to a nearby Starbucks while we waited. Inside the diner, we had so much fun! Everyone got involved in the music, clapping and singing along. Gregory even got the chance to dance with a waitress. (It was her idea, not his.) The food was good, especially the cake we had for April’s birthday. It was late by the time we started back to the hotel, and we knew we’d have to be ready to leave for the airport by 3:30. Some of us didn’t even try to sleep.
It was a good last day for our trip. While we waited outside the train station for the shuttle to the hotel, we applauded Miss Hannay and Mr. Yoder, and we all thanked them for organizing this great trip for us.
